BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — A massive $38-million renovation project is underway on Louisiana Street in Buffalo's Old First Ward. The former home of Barcalo Manufacturing, the birthplace of the Barcalounger, will become the Barcalo Living and Commerce Center.

“We're going to turn this into a mixed-use development, 116 apartments, and about 30,00 square feet of commercial space to lease,” said Karl Frizlen, the president of The Frizlen Group.

It’s been a frustrating few months for Karl Frizlen and Michael Masters, as they’ve tried to get their Barcalo apartment project off the ground.

The duo is converting the historic former furniture manufacturing plant on Louisiana Street – where Barcaloungers were made – into 118 apartments and a possible restaurant.

The School Lofts @ Seneca, located in the heart of South Buffalo along Seneca Street, is a conversion of a historic school building into a state-of-the-art residential complex featuring 37 luxury loft apartments. The school was built in 1906 as part of the St. Teresa church complex and is now a historic landmark.
